Assistant Director of the Library
Clarks Summit University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of the Murphy Memorial Library, to begin in June 2022. This is a 12-month staff position. The Assistant Director reports to the Library Director.
The Murphy Memorial Library at Clarks Summit University provides resources for the intellectual, cultural, and spiritual development of students, faculty, and staff. The library holds over 65,000 volumes in addition to online resources. Additional holdings include DVDs, CDs, and microfiche. Areas are provided for viewing or listening to audiovisuals as well as working on projects. The library’s Reference Room contains collections specific to graduate and seminary programs as well as course reserves for current classes in those fields of study. Computers are available for student use.

Responsibilities
The Assistant Director of the Library supports the mission of Clarks Summit University by assisting the Library Director in developing, administering, and coordinating library holdings, operations, and services, and by directing the library in the absence of the Director.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Advance the Christ-centered mission and culture of Clarks Summit University.
- Seek to be a role model in attitude, speech, and actions in a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- Follow Matthew 18 principles in addressing issues with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Show by example the importance of Scripture memorization, Bible study, prayer, witnessing, and Christian fellowship.
- Be prepared to communicate the school’s religious beliefs to students and others who inquire.
- Be ready to pray and offer spiritual advice to students, faculty, and staff.
- Assist and support the Director in overseeing all aspects of the library including circulation, collection development, library holdings, databases, systems and services, facilities, and the development of all library policies and procedures.
- Perform and supervise library functions.
- Assist in training and supervising library staff.
- Assist in the selection and acquisition of materials.
- Provide reference assistance to campus and online students, assist patrons, and deliver information literacy instruction.
- Support the Director in planning, implementing, and evaluating library services, goals, and objectives.
- Provide leadership in the Director’s absence.
- Complete projects as assigned by the Director.
- Maintain confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.
- Effectively interact with professional colleagues both inside and outside CSU.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Be committed to furthering Clarks Summit University’s mission as a faith-based organization.
- Be willing to submit to and honor the standards outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Be in complete support of and adherence to Clarks Summit University’s Standards of Conduct and Confession of Faith.
- Faithfully attend a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with Clarks Summit University.
- Hold MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution or two years of related experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
- Be a self-starter, results-oriented, strong in managing details, and able to motivate others.
- Show excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Show proficiency in Outlook, Windows, Word, and Excel or similar programs.
